Hard seasons happen.
Maybe you're staring at a stack of bills right now. Maybe the numbers just don't add up this month. Maybe you're wondering how you're going to put food on the table and still keep the lights on.
And somewhere in the middle of all that stress, you're also wondering: where is God in this?
Here's the truth. Your faith and your finances don't have to be at war. You can trust God and still take practical steps. You can pray and also make a budget. You can believe in provision and still ask for help.
This guide is for you. Simple steps. Real encouragement. No fluff.
Let's walk through this together.
Step 1: Get Honest About Where You Are
Before you can move forward, you need to know where you're standing.
This isn't about shame. It's about clarity.
Sit down and write out exactly what's coming in and what's going out. Look at your bills. Look at your income. Look at the gap if there is one.
This might feel scary. That's okay. Do it anyway.
Here's why this matters for your faith: God already knows your situation. He's not surprised by your bank account. When you get honest about where you are, you're not telling Him something new. You're just getting on the same page.
Psalm 139 says He knows everything about us. Every detail. Every worry. Every dollar.
Getting honest is the first step to letting Him meet you right where you are.
Step 2: Separate Fear from Facts
When money gets tight, fear gets loud.
Your brain starts spinning worst-case scenarios. What if I lose my house? What if I can't feed my kids? What if this never gets better?
Fear makes everything feel urgent and impossible. But fear isn't always telling you the truth.
Here's a simple exercise: grab a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle.
On one side, write down the facts. The actual numbers. The real deadlines. The concrete situation.
On the other side, write down the fears. The what-ifs. The maybe's. The stories your brain is telling you.
Now look at both lists.
The facts? Those you can work with. Those you can pray over. Those you can make a plan for.
The fears? Those you can hand over to God.
Matthew 6:34 says not to worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow has enough trouble of its own. That's not God dismissing your struggles. That's Him saying: stay present. Deal with today. Let Me handle what you can't see yet.
Separating fear from facts helps you breathe. And when you can breathe, you can think. And when you can think, you can take the next right step.
Step 3: Make a Simple Plan (and Hold It Loosely)
Faith without action is just wishing.
God invites us to partner with Him. That means we pray and we plan. We trust and we take steps.
So make a simple plan. Nothing fancy. Just the basics.
Write it down. Keep it simple.
But here's the key: hold your plan loosely.
Plans change. Unexpected expenses pop up. Sometimes the money you were counting on doesn't come through. That's life.
Your plan is not your savior. It's just a tool. God is still in control, even when your plan falls apart.
Proverbs 16:9 says we can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. Make the plan. Do your part. And trust Him with the rest.
Step 4: Ask for Help (This Is Not Weakness)
This one is hard for a lot of people.
We want to be independent.
We want to handle things on our own. Asking for help feels like failure.
But here's what the Bible actually says about community: we need each other.
Galatians 6:2 tells us to carry each other's burdens. That means sometimes you carry. And sometimes you let someone else carry for you.
There are people and organizations who want to help. That's literally why they exist.
At Together God Wins, we believe in meeting real needs. Spiritual food and actual food. Because faith grows best when your basic needs are covered. And sometimes the most faith-filled thing you can do is reach out and say, "I need help right now."
That might mean:
Asking for help is not giving up on God. It's letting God use His people to love you.
Step 5: Keep Showing Up (Even When You Don't Feel It)
Here's the reality of hard seasons: they don't always end quickly.
Sometimes the struggle lasts longer than you expected. Sometimes you do everything right and the situation still feels impossible.
This is where faith gets real.
Faith isn't a feeling. It's a decision. It's showing up to pray even when you're tired. It's reading Scripture even when the words feel dry. It's choosing to trust even when you can't see the way forward.
Hebrews 11:1 says faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
You might not see the breakthrough yet. But that doesn't mean it's not coming.
Keep showing up.
God meets us in the showing up. Not in the perfection. Not in the having-it-all-together. Just in the showing up.
